About

Lisa is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has practiced Family Law for more than 20 years. From helping families through divorce to child-related legal problems, Lisa makes each client a priority with personal dedication.
Lisa’s interest in the law began while watching Perry Mason reruns with her parents as a child. His ability to find the truth and win justice for his clients fascinated her. It was during her freshman year of college that she realized she wanted to become an attorney and made the decision to go to law school.
“I liked the legal process and law school taught me how-to gather facts and put together arguments to solve a challenge. I’ve also learned, through my years of experience, that you have to be able to see all sides of a situation in order to anticipate the counter argument.”
After graduating from Louisiana State University with her law degree in 1993 and passing the bar exam, Lisa began her legal career working for an energy company in Midland, Texas. When the oil and gas industry “dried up” in the mid-1990s, she relocated to Fort Worth and opened a solo practice, specializing in criminal defense.
During this time, she met fellow attorney Anita Cutrer and in 1999, they joined forces and opened the first all-female law partnership in Tarrant County. Lisa continued to practice criminal law and was named the first female president of the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. The firm began taking on family law cases and Lisa decided to switch gears, becoming board certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Since then, Lisa and Anita have built Hoppes & Cutrer into a successful family law firm that is respected by judges and other attorneys. Lisa has received numerous awards and recognition during her career, including Top Attorney in 360 West magazine, and she has been selected numerous times for the Texas Super Lawyers list in Texas Monthly, an exclusive honor only five percent of all practicing attorneys receive annually.
“Our reputation is one of our greatest assets. When we walk into a courtroom, judges and opposing counsel know we’ll be prepared and that we know the law.”
Lisa’s 25 years of experience in family law also enables her to make the process as smooth as possible for clients. Clients trust her legal expertise and ability to break down the process, set realistic expectations, and give honest advice about the benefits and consequences for courses of action.
Lisa has been very involved in the Family Law Section of the Texas State Bar for many years. She has been the program director for several statewide continuing legal education family law seminars and is a frequent speaker at these seminars. In 2019, she will serve as the course director for Advanced Family Law. In addition, she is a lover of animals and volunteers for causes helping animals. The charity Don’t Forget to Feed Me is one of the animal causes she is passionate about and she served as president of the organization’s board of directors in 2016.
