About

Relentless Advocacy for Clients in Family Law Matters
Kamelia “Mia” Poppe, Esq. is the founding partner of The Law Firm of Poppe & Associates, PLLC. She is an experienced practitioner of family law, with niche competencies in high net worth divorce, father’s rights, same sex divorces, the Hague Convention and international child custody, abduction and wrongful retention, and the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA).
Mia has built a firm culture that is client-centric, treating every client the way she would want her relatives treated, and with an unyielding emphasis on alacrity and strategic execution. The Firm’s moniker is “Relentless Advocacy”, and the entire team prides themselves in strong advocacy for their clients.
22 Years as a Senior Business Leader
Mia Poppe grew up in the heart of the South in Charleston. The granddaughter, of a sharecropper, from a young age Mia learned how to “make lemonade” when you get lemons, and also how to “dance in the rain”. People that knew her from her early years fondly call her a Steel Magnolia, a comparison that Mia accepts and embodies.
After graduating from College of Charleston she began her financial and banking career working for Citigroup in the San Francisco Bay area. For the next 22 years she worked as a Senior Business Leader at Citigroup, G.E. Capital, and Bank of America.
Mia’s tenure at these organizations developed her strong leadership skills, as well as gave her the experience necessary to adeptly navigate the most complex financial information and documents. Her financial acumen is key in resolving matrimonial matters, especially high net worth divorces, as economic issues dominate most divorces. Although Mia has strong financial acumen, the team works with forensic accountants on high net worth divorces. The forensic professionals the team works with are skilled at asset tracing, lifestyle analysis, and identifying undisclosed assets.
A Strategic "Cooler Heads Prevail" Approach
Ms. Poppe's practice is dedicated to vigorous client centered advocacy, with a focus on settling cases without the costly and "bruising" effects of a trial.  Ms. Poppe has uniquely strong math acumen, and understands the financials involved in high net worth divorces, such acumen enables her to draft and present compelling financial settlement agreements without undue delay. As a mother, Ms. Poppe understands the nuiances involved in custody matters, such nuiances frequently go undetected by many.
Ms. Poppe and her team, handle high net worth divorces, same sex divorces, uncontested divorces, custody matters - including international or cross border custody matters, and matrimonial and family court appeals.  Ms. Poppe approaches complex legal matters strategically and with a "cooler heads prevail" approach.
Life Outside the Courtroom
Ms. Poppe is the mother of 8 children (6 of whom are adults - and a set of twin toddlers). Ms. Poppe is passionate about the practice of matrimonial and family law and she distinguishes herself as a smart lawyer who is in the business of helping.
Ms. Poppe is an a runner, and a serious yoga practitioner.  She is also an active in a number of organizations including, New York  State Bar, Brooklyn Bar Association, the Pro bono lawyers project, and the American Bar Association.

Mia is a member of the steering committee for Lincoln Center Kids, and helps bring the arts to children ages 3 and up, and to underserved communities.  Mia, like many, believes that the arts are for all to enjoy and access to the arts should be afforded to all children living in the artistically rich, New York city.  Mia regularly attends dinners, concerts, and theatrical productions at Lincoln Center.  Mia is presently expanding her philanthropic endeavors to combat homelessless and disparity in education.  Mia also donates to her alma mater, North Carolina University School of Law.
