About

Jack Carnegie represents businesses in litigation and arbitration, not only defending those companies from potential liabilities but often helping them recover significant losses. Much of his practice involves the oil and gas and chemical industries, where he handles a wide variety of contract, business tort, and insurance and indemnity disputes including contract and coverage issues related to additional insured provisions.
Jack also has an active appellate practice and is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Jack has argued dozens of times before Texas appellate courts, including the Fifth Circuit and the Texas Supreme Court in which he is responsible for a number of landmark decisions.
Jack obtained a major victory for Texas policyholders in Evanston Ins. Co. v. Atofina Petrochemicals, Inc., where the Texas Supreme Court rendered judgment worth more than $8 million. This decision was based largely on one of Jack's earlier Supreme Court wins, Getty Oil Company v. Insurance Company of North America, a $28 million suit for breach of contract involving indemnities and contractual additional insurance provisions.
Jack's experience also includes Baroid Equipment Inc. v. Odeco Drilling, Inc., reversing a multimillion dollar judgment for breach of contract and warranty related to riser tensioner systems for offshore drilling rigs, and Kaiser-Francis Oil Company v. Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co., reversing an $8 million take or pay judgment.
Jack is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He frequently speaks at continuing legal education seminars on a variety of topics including insurance and indemnity issues and the role of appellate counsel in litigation. He is a member of the Texas State Bar Appellate Section Corporate Counsel Liaison Committee and a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
