Marjorie Stern Jacobs has more than 40 years of experience concentrating in the areas of Pennsylvania eminent domain (condemnation), real estate taxation, zoning and land use, and property valuation, practicing in the public and private sectors. She has an Martindale-Hubbel AV Preeminent Rating.
Marjorie's extensive experience in Pennsylvania real estate tax matters includes counseling and litigation support to both property owners and assessing/taxing authorities. She has pursued various forms of real estate tax relief, including real estate tax assessment (market value) appeals and exemptions for a broad spectrum of residential, industrial, commercial, and special-use properties. She has focused, in particular on real estate tax assessment appeals for commercial and industrial properties in Philadelphia.
Marjorie has represented both condemning authorities (condemnors) and property owners (condemnees) in Pennsylvania eminent domain (condemnation) proceedings. She handles pre-condemnation and post-condemnation matters, working with real estate and personal property appraisers, land planners, engineers, relocation specialists, and other professionals. She is experienced in addressing property valuation, appraisal, compensation, and relocation issues.
She practiced with several major law firms before setting up her own law practice in 2012. She holds a national certification as a Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). She is also a member of the The Counselors Of Real Estate and holds the CRE Designation.
Prior to entering private practice in 1992, Marjorie was a Divisional Deputy City Solicitor in the City of Philadelphia Law Department (Office of the City Solicitor), where she served as counsel to the City of Philadelphia Board of Revision of Taxes and the City of Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Marjorie has been active in the Philadelphia Bar Association for many years and has held several leadership positions. In 1995, she served as the first female Chair of the Real Property Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Section's Eminent Domain and Appraisals Committee.
