About

Peter Axelrod is a partner and founded the predecessor of Axelrod, Fingerhut & Dennis in 1988.  Over the past 29 years he has focused his practice on cooperative and condominium representation, as well as on commercial litigation, litigation of real estate related issues including landlord-tenant litigation and on domestic relations litigation.
Mr. Axelrod has built Axelrod, Fingerhut & Dennis to become one of the leading real estate practices in New York.  He has been and AV rated lawyer since 1989 and has been named a Super Lawyer each year for the past six years.  In addition, Mr. Axelrod has been recognized by AVVO with a Superb rating.
Because he represents both plaintiffs and defendants; landlords and tenants; cooperative corporations and shareholders; condominium boards and unit owners, Mr. Axelrod brings a unique perspective in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each side to a dispute or a litigation and can strategize accordingly or negotiate a fair and favorable settlement for his clients.  In 2011 he obtained the third highest reported contract verdict in New York State arising from a claim against a borrower for fraudulent inducement in obtaining a construction loan.  He successfully tried 32 consolidated holdover proceedings in connection with a developer’s condominium conversion resulting after a trial verdict and subsequent appeals in a settlement providing for the issuance of warrants of eviction, money judgments for outstanding use and occupancy and reimbursement of his client’s legal fees.  Mr. Axelrod also negotiated a six figure buy-out for a tenant, a non-primary resident, despite the fact that the landlord had placed a camera in front of his door for a full year prior to the commencement of the litigation which demonstrated his absence.
An avid reader and tennis player, Mr. Axelrod has traveled to five continents and 40 countries and looks forward to adding to that number.
