Lucy Brierly Bansal is an associate at Outten & Golden LLP and a member of the firm’s Class & Collective Action Practice Group in Washington, D.C.  She represents workers in complex litigation involving employment discrimination and wage theft (unpaid wages, overtime, misclassification, tip theft, retaliation), and throughout pre-litigation negotiations, administrative investigations, and settlement proceedings.
Ms. Bansal represented the plaintiffs in Amaya et al. v. Power Design, Inc., a landmark appellate decision that secured FLSA overtime rights for underpaid workers on federal worksites.*  She has also successfully negotiated, litigated, and settled wage-related collective actions on behalf of restaurant workers, retail employees, and mortgage loan officers, and discrimination actions involving unlawful consideration of race, age, sex/pregnancy, and disability.
Before joining Outten & Golden in 2017, Ms. Bansal practiced law in Maryland, where she represented low-wage workers in individual and collective actions involving wage theft and employment discrimination.
Ms. Bansal received her B.A. from McGill University in Montréal, Quebec (Canada) in 2011, and her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2014.  She was a Benjamin R. Civiletti Leadership Scholar and served as an associate editor of the University of Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender and Class, which published her 2013 article about “low bono” access to justice and unbundled legal services, A Lawyer for John Doe: Alternative Models for Representing Maryland's Middle Class.
Ms. Bansal serves on the Board of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association and as Chair of its New Lawyers Committee.  She is an Advising Attorney for the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs Workers’ Rights Clinic and is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association and American Bar Association Section of Labor & Employment Law.
Ms. Bansal is a member of the Maryland and Washington, D.C. bars and practices in federal courts nationwide.
